Andes Holiday Stroll

HOLIDAY HOMETOWN FUN IN ANDES – SAT DEC 5th

On Saturday, December 5th our historic little community is going all out with special activities for those who live here and visitors alike to enjoy.  The United Methodist Church on Lower Main will put on their annual Holiday Bazaar and Luncheon from 11am to 3pm.   At 3:30 pm the Community Storytelling Troupe will tell holiday and seasonal tales at the Library (242 Main Street).   Bring the family to Bohlmann Park (adjoining the Library) at 4 pm and watch Santa arrive on a fire truck.  Enjoy the community tree-lighting and carol singing by all, with photo ops for the kids with Santa.  The annual Open House homemade soup supper follows, compliments of the historic society, a couple of doors down at The Hunting Tavern Museum (288 Main Street).    Clementine Vintage Clothing store will host an informal fashion show from 6pm to 8pm showcasing party dresses, men’s holiday attire, and retro snow bunny looks, accompanied by nostalgic Christmas tunes and eggnog!

Some of our one-of-a-kind shops, boutiques and galleries are extending their hours until 8 pm on December 5th for a Holiday Stroll.    Kabinett & Kammer will have on display part of Sean Scherer’s extensive selection (almost 1000 in his entire collection) of antique Christmas ornaments dating from the late 1800’s through the 1940’s.  He will also have some of them available for purchase.   View the individually decorated spiral trees as you walk along Main Street and partake of the hospitality of our proprietors.   Scott Hill of Delaware Trading Post, who encouraged the businesses to do something special to decorate Andes at Christmas time, talks about how the idea for the spiral tress developed:  “We liked the idea of a sort fo Dr Seussian spiral tree.  Ed Wood, of Raddii, graciously agreed to engineer the project, cutting each of the tress out of sheets of Sintra, which essentially is PVC in flat form.  This material con be stapled into and screwed into, and is waterproof-a perfect material for our harsh weather conditions. “

Does the thought of visiting an overcrowded shopping mall pall on you?  Craving that hometown, laid-back feeling while you do your holiday shopping?  Leave alienation behind and come to  nearby Andes where shop and gallery owners enjoy interacting with their customers and are proud of their unusual and often handmade gifts at great prices.

And remember, The Andes Hotel is open every day for a drink, snack or a meal.
